- This Cause Is Very Special To Me! -

In the United States, about 2,000,000 seniors live in about 15,000 nursing homes and 28,000 assisted living facilities.  While all of these facilities will have "the usual" television on Christmas Day, most will operate with a skeleton crew as staff take needed and deserved time to spend with their own families.  Even if a facility might normally provide some live entertainment on a quarterly, monthly, or even weekly basis,it's almost a guarantee that NOTHING will be offered on Christmas Day!  Really, just another reminder that what should be a special day, is unfortunately not special!

Live musical entertainment, however, is only part of what is missing for these seniors.  On Christmas day, seniors also are deprived of any type of chance to really "experience" Christmas, i.e. to re-connect with what Christmas used to mean to them and perhaps more importantly, what a spiritual relationship can mean to them right now.  As it turns out, Christmas songs can do quite a lot to help people "re-connect" and to experience Christmas in a real and uplifting way!  Music does have power!

Will You Join Me For This Christmas?!

I hope you will join me in an ambitious effort to add something special, and unexpected, to Christmas Day dinner at senior living facilities across these United StatesFor those seniors left at their facilities on Christmas day, after watching their fellow residents leave to join family gatherings with trees and all the trimmings, I would like to offer something small, and something very special. Something that could indeed be very meaningful, for the depressing and lonely Christmas that they would otherwise have.

For the Faithful - At Christmas!  was created for the faithful, but also, for the lonely, the sick, the downtrodden, and also, the forgotten.  Some of the elderly in nursing homes have heard this music already and described it in very emotional terms.  Some describe powerful, moving memories of younger days, young families, and "the good 'ole days."  Some express gratitude for a "break through" re-connection with their faith and spirituality.  Some, actually, weep with joy at just the re-awakening of positive, lost feelings and great memories.  It is amazing, truly, what songs from childhood can do!  And, this of course includes the traditional Christmas hymns, many of which are more than 100 years old themselves.

Certainly, music can't cure all the problems.  But, most definitely, it can help "bring in the light" and be a reminder of God's presence in everyone's life, especially, at Christmas!

I Would Like To Set My Own Amount

Maybe Have Some Kind Friends Who Would Like To Help As Well?

Is there anyone who looks forward to going to a nursing home?  How about giving up their home to live in even the nicest of assisted living facilities?

Certainly, no one looks forward to the passing of their friends, family, and to be the surviving spouse...left alone in a place with strangers, maybe half a room, a bureau, and a shelf.  Everything is new and certainly, nothing looks, tastes, feels or even smells like home.  Where did the time go?  All of a sudden, truly, a stranger...in a "foreign" land...

While each of us can do our best to take care of our own families, undoubtedly, there are many, many people in institutional settings who do not have close family, friends, a church family, or really anyone.  Compound that with "institutional life," i.e. not much to do, not many people to talk to, the infirmities of old age, but, lots and lots and lots of monotonous television.  Day after day.  Week after week and month after month.

For the elderly, and for all of us sometimes, the end of the year holidays can be a very difficult time.  The feelings, and the reality of, loneliness, loss, feelings of abandonment, and boredom can become very pronounced, and even, overwhelming.

The Goal and the Mission!

For the Faithful - At Christmas!  was created for the faithful, but also, for the lonely, the sick, the downtrodden, and also, the forgotten.

Our goal is to reach as many of the 40,000+ facilities as possible and in doing so, provide a special, uplifting surprise for the "left behind" seniors at their Christmas meal.    For those who have heard the album, or, the posted sound clips, you know that the music will go a long way in providing some dinner music that will be not only uplifting and  new, but also, truly meaningful.  For some of the elderly, the music might serve only to brighten their conversation, and that's fine.  For others, however, it will inevitably go further and create a special time for spiritual reflection and even, "re-connection!"   Re-connecting with faith is, simply put, priceless!

40,000 is an ambitious goal!  Will you help?  Personally, I will match each contribution dollar for dollar until all facilities with seniors left behind on Christmas Day, have access to this "something special" for their holiday meal in "a foreign land."
